So I went to Friday Night Magic this week. And much to my surprise, they posted standings for The Tournament of Champions. Basically, they keep track of all the matches you play for the Draft or for the Standard Tournaments they host every Friday Night.
I play a lot of the Draft Tournaments and I looked at the standings. The Top 16 people for each type of tournament are allowed to participate. I was in 17th place. Here is the good news. If any one of the people cannot participate next Saturday, I’m in.
So my next Saturday afternoon, I will be at the shop and hopefully someone can’t make it. Now the way this tournament works is that everyone that plays, gets in for free. In the case of the Draft, that could be a very very profitable venture.
You draft your cards like a normal draft tournament, and you are paired up with someone to face in the first round. Winner of that match (best of 3 games), wins all. This means if I win the first round, I get all of my opponents cards and can use them to remake my deck for the next round.
If you do well enough, you could end up with well over 400 cards if you win the tournament. There are a total of 672 cards on the line in this tournament. That’s kind of sick. Especially if it is free.
